More stuff about Manhunt2

Monday, December 17th, 2007

CGE_bloglogoIn the news today, more stuff is going on with the crazy furore over the Manhunt2 classifications. Things got overturned, the BBFC said stuff, Rockstar said some other stuff - frankly the whole thing’s just got complicated and silly now.

Does anyone really care anymore? Just release it and shut up now please - it’s probably a bit crap anyway and personally, I’m beyond caring about the implications of little kiddies playing it. Just stamp a big red “sick and a bit rubbish” stamp on it and let the parents sort it out.

Let’s get back to news about the Ghostbusters game, please.

Polybius

Friday, December 14th, 2007

How on Earth have I never heard of Polybius before?? I love Urban Legends, and check Snopes pretty much daily for new stuff. You’d have thought I’d have heard of this, it’s brilliant!

Polybius is supposedly an arcade game, thought to be similar in genre to Atari’s Tempest, and the subject of an online urban legend. According to the story, the game was released to the public in 1981, and caused its players to go insane, causing them to suffer from intense stress and horrific nightmares. A short time after its release, it supposedly disappeared without a trace…

Polybius is my new favourite thing ever. To those of you out there that work in The Games Industry: any chance you can find a copy so I can play it and go MAD, please?

Here’s a list of the new stuff to tinker with and enjoy.

Crickey, that’s big!

Publishers Activision (who published Call of Duty, Tony Hawk, and Ghostbusters on the C64) and Vivendi (who published Crash Bandicoot and World of Warcraft) have merged to form an uber-giant (and excitingly named) publisher, Activision Blizzard.

The deal, valued at $18.9 billion which is quite a lot of money, establishes Activision Blizzard as the world’s largest independent videogame publisher.

“By combining leaders in mass-market entertainment and subscription-based online games, Activision Blizzard will be the only publisher with leading market positions across all categories of the rapidly growing interactive entertainment software industry and reach the broadest possible audiences,” commented Robert Kotick, CEO of Activision.
