Pushing buttons not like playing real guitar!

June 9th, 2008 by andy

Shocking news everybody! According to some guy called John Mayer who, according to Wikipedia, is some sort of American rock musician (yep, we’re in touch and up-to-date here at CGEmpire), pushing plastic buttons and waggling your arms around in Guitar Hero is not really very similar to playing an actual guitar.

Lies. Real guitars don’t have coloured buttons, apparently

Amazing. Congratulations John Mayer for that astounding insight.

Next you’ll be telling me that using a mouse and keyboard isn’t like running through a dystopian futuristic eastern european city shooting alien/ pan-dimensional invaders and driving cars through radioactive swamps and hitting things with a crowbar and dicking about with gravity, lol.

No apparently that is the same, Dan.

That whole interview was depressing.

Some people were stupid enough to think GH would teach you how to play though. It teachers you rhythm at least to some extent.

yep, some people did actually believe that. A friend did recently tell me someone was developing a game that had would actually help you learn guitar *I have not reasearched this, it’s just what I heard.

It teaches you to play air guitar, probably.

I suppose it’ll help with keeping time quite well.

I’ll bet it makes a great peripheral for music games as well!

I wonder if I can sue because they didn’t state it on the box?

:P

John Mayer sounds like a real bright spark.. I think his just po’d cause more people play guitar hero than listen to his music :P

Edit: Anyway for the most part I reckon the bit of time I spent playing it those expert songs really chew away at your forearm, shoulder and fingers.

So I reckon you learn some timing skills, and also train your muscles to be stronger and last longer if you ever want to play.

Yeah its pretty weird to even compare GH and real guitar. One one hand - its just a game. Just like driving games or any games really.
On the other hand, it is a little weird that some people take it a bit too seriously. I mean most games "simulate" things you cant do or perhaps wouldnt be doing in real life whereas playing the guitar - its not an unreachable feat in real life If you wanna play a game for a bit, fine, but when youre really into it for the music and guitar playing itself, might be a good idea to try to pick up a real guitar and learn something. But yeah i guess its fun to live the fantasy once in a while

I wonder if this counts for rock band when you master the drums?

I always wanted to play drums.

Hmm, never played that but since most essential in playing drums is a good sense of rhythm, i reckon that mastering rock band drums might be a big advantage when getting started with real drums. Someone just hasnt got it in them but i guess if you’re really good at rock band with drums, its def. a good sign.
