Solitaire it is!

That's the Japanese competitive eating champ, btw! He does have a thumb, it's just that it's at an angle where it's pointed directly toward us, so it's hard to see

Are you sure he didn't get a bit over excited and accidentally eat it during his previous competition?

I imagine bitten tongues and fingers are one of the many dangers of the job

Well, he (or she, going with my first guess) did indeed look rather stumpy on this occasion.

Competition eating is such an bizarre phenomenon, up there with extreme breathing and white blood cell manufacturing tournaments.

Be very anfraid: I’ll have another one for you shortly.

Here’s an warm-up: what period of time is indicated by the following?

Ctrl/Shift+Click: Zoom In, Click: Zoom Out, Alt+Click: Reset

The real one is coming very soon…

Nice one, Mr Nick N. “Periodic Table of the Elements” Stien!

With some Fe-rocious Fe-rreting™, you got the iron part jiffily sorted. The actual answer (aka what I was thinking … with obligatory computer game tie-in) is:

Fe = Iron
Fe = Half-Life.

Half-life of Iron-54 (the most common radioactive isotope around these parts) = more than 3.1×10^22 years.

Here’s the next puzzle: (order is from top left, proceeding clockwise, i.e. left->right and top|bottom: 1->2->3|4 | 7->6->5)

Ctrl/Shift+Click: Zoom In, Click: Zoom Out, Alt+Click: Reset

Refresher (refriger-scheduler): The vowel from each syllable of the original game name has been replaced by ij (i.e. an idge/itch type sound), so look for picture-clue (pidger-clidge) solutions that lead to an idgy-sounding answer when combined. Then convert the ij parts back into normal vowels to complete the process. Enjoy!

While you’re contemplating that conundrum, I’ll offer my deepest heartfelt thanks for that lodge-of-lychee bigot of large-jacketial curd-yield-legerdemain.

Awww, glad you liked it! It's as lovely and lateral as I could muster at this hour.
