THE 16th CGEMPIRE MUSIC COMPETITION

RULES
  • The entries are anonymous. You will need to PM Nikolas, or e-mail at nikolasideris@yahoo.gr. Please make sure that your entry is anonymous (eg. no name, or nickname, or member nick on the title. Any simmilar titles in the tracks will be automatically altered slightly to avoid confusion. Please, please, make sure your filename is clear, that your entry has a clear name, that your CGEmpire nickname is shown when you sent your entry. When I have doubt about something I will contact you.
  • you may use any method of sending your entry, may it be your own ftp website, or yousendit, rapidshare, etc.
  • The entries can be in mp3, ogg and midi format
  • The competitions deadline is on Sunday 22nd of June 23:59 London time. There will be absolutely no extensions under no circumstances, for no one, for no reason. One month and a few days is more than enough time to deal with entering the competition.
  • One entry per member
  • You need to be a registered member in CGEmpire.com in order to take part on the competition. When you send your entry, note clearly what is your CGEmpire member name, in the PM, or e-mail you send.
  • Don't expect to get a reply that I got your entry. There are various ways to check that I got your entry. You can check with the method you're using. yousendit, rapidshare, etc, have counters, so it should be easy to know if someone downloaded your track. But the main, dead easy way to know is to see that your track got posted in the entries thread. If a couple of days pass and nothing happens, I'm either online for some weird reason (and the world is coming to an end or something...), or there is something wrong, in which case I will have contacted you already.
  • The entries will be posted as they are sent, anonymously.
  • After the deadline a new thread will open and the secret, public voting, process will start.
  • Keep in mind that one rule that has been decided for the voting process is that all entrants who vote, will automatically receive a vote for their own entry.
  • The CGEmpire team reserves the right to disqualify any entry, for any reason or cancel any event for any reason.
  • Copyright remains to the creators of each entry, or whoever owns originally the rights.

GUIDELINES/SUGGESTIONS
  • Bare the following suggestions very much in mind, please. None of these guidelines are strict and are provided only for fruther guidance of the entrants.
  • The theme is provided so that the voters will know what they're voting for. There is no rule as far as aesthetics go, but if you decide to post a trance track for the current theme, chances are that you won't get many votes. Remember that the competition winner is voted by you, the public.
  • There is no set/strict rule as far as the length of the entries go. But use some common sense. Unless you are possitive you can keep the interest high for 30 minutes, don't post too long tracks. 2, 3 or even 4 minutes seems relatively safe and sane at the same time. Long tracks mean big files (which reduces the chance that people will download the track) and also means that there is a chance that some people simply won't bother with your track.
  • One entry per entrant. Of course, you can't send 5 different mp3s to multiply your chances of winning by 5. Maybe you can paste the 5 mp3s into 1 file though? Nope! Sorry! Then what about double thematice entries, are these disqualified as well? No, definately not! In fact we've never disqualified any entries! But judging if something is one entry, or multiple entries pasted into one file, seems relatively easy! Again, if you make it and you are not disqualified then you are in the hands of the voters.
  • The voters are the ultimate judges of your entry. Even if your entry bypasses all rules, and still is not disqualified, with your vote you can send a clear message to the entrant.
  • It's all about fun. It's all about participating and being part of a friendly and wonderful community. It's all about winning (wait... ). It's all about making music, isn't it?
  • Sound effects are allowed!

THE THEME

Location: the space.
Surroundings: inside an old spacecraft
Time: the future

You are called to compose:
The Darklord theme. The ultimate evil theme. The final boss theme.

Think about it as you want. But you do need to compose the theme of... the bad guy. That bad guy deserves a chance after all. Now, if you want the bad guy to be like alien, make it so, if you want it to be like a human traitor, make it so, if you want it to be like predator, make it so. But make sure that the evilness is leaking from your entry!

THE SPONSOR

Ctrl/Shift+Click: Zoom In, Click: Zoom Out, Alt+Click: Reset

The 16th CGEmpire Music Competition is kindly sponsored by Peter and Giorgio, the creators and owners of Samplemodelling.

The winner will receive a copy of the trumpet, a VSTi of unparallel realism and usability!

I will let a small video to speak, instead of me:

Real trumpet or not?
For higher quality please try either of the following links:
WMV version of the above video.

trumpet by Axel Schlosser
trumpet midi sequencing by Maciej Mulawa.

All audio from the above video file is taken from the trumpet.

For more information please visit this page.
For more stunning demos please visit the demo page.

The trumpet is retailed at €149/$240/£120 (VAT excluded).

Giorgio and Peter are offering a discount coupon of 20% off the full price of the trumpet, to all entrants of the 16th CGEmpire Music Competition. The discount is applicable only to the full price of the product and it lasts 15 days after the winner has been voted for!

Please note that sample modelling is a new company, and a very exciting prospect as such, with a great product to offer! There will be absolutely no tolerance to anyone trying to somehow take advantage of this discount through CGEmpire. I simply won't tolerate any hastily done entry "so we can take the 20%! D-uh!". Thank you.

At least yours mistakes can be understood. Not like the ones of Tash that is a new language.

Edit:

I just saw the theme, it will be very entertaining to compose an evil theme/last boss evil theme. It made me think of Darth Vader's march. haha

Prize is wonderful as always. Thanks for bring us great things Nikolas and to take action for have always a prize for the competitions.

Bad guy theme sound tempting, I think I'm good at making terrible tracks, so the theme is in my advantage.

@ Nyu : I believe everyone in this thread thought of Darth Vader when they first read about the theme!
Now, lets see, how can we make the march unrecognizable...

Anyway, as tradition has it:

Yeah, new competition! Wohoo hoo!!!

Nice one, Nikolas! Both the prize and the contest itself are highly compelling!

Interesting that whoever writes the most evil sounding theme will win what is arguably the most heroic instrument.
