I'm new here, so I'm not sure if there's a protocol for posting things in the Listening Area. Please don't get too angry if i did anything wrong - I'm fragile.

This is the music to the opening scene of a project I'm working on. It's the first scoring job I've ever had, so I'm really trying to do my best.

The scene is a battle between two characters. One good and the other evil. Since this is a dark movie (a short film actually) the evil character wins, killing the good guy. The orchestra hits you hear near the end are the good guy being stabbed to death (like I said - dark), and after that the violin plays a variation of one of the main themes - it's the theme I'm using whenever something good is destroyed. I chose the solo violin because of the weeping affect it gives off.

It's sort of a final mix, but will probably have to be redone after I get a taste of the sound system it will be viewed on. So if there are any glaring mixing errors please let me know.

I posted this on the Garritan Forum, so I apologize to the people on that site for having to see my stuff twice.

Anyway, here goes nothing...

Keith, no worries!

We are friendly, open hearted, open minded, and I'm (as many others here), friends with Gary, as well as many others!

So relax, welcome and I'll try to provide feedback later on tomorrow, since it's 02:01 right now and it's time for bed, after a very, extremely long day.

Keith

I remember this one from Gary's site. I liked it then and still do.

Very nice!

I think you did a splendid job but like most things I always have an opinion both good and bad.

Since you did a good job I only have a few personal things with little professional opinion or knowledge behind it.

Like in the beginning you have that buzzing sound, I think you should change it because it isn't good for the ear and it creates crackle sound in my speaker which means something in the sound is too high or high pitch and the sound itself gives me a slight headache.

But like I mentioned, you have done a awesome job and I am simply pointing out my personal opinion as a listener, so by all means ignore what I mention.

Second thing I feel is that the tune could be quicker because it is for a fight scene but it also depends on what type of fight scene.

For example, if they are having a long range gun fight, this tune fits great.
If they are having a close combat fight with kicks and punches I personally like the music to be quicker depending on how quick they are fighting.

But the ending is great because the guy dies so you shouldn't change the start and the ending, just the mid part.

And that is all I have to share. I hope it wasn't too much or somehow rude.

Keep up the good work.

this wasn't rude at all. i appreciate you listening and giving some suggestions.

i will say that i'm not sure what the buzzing sound you're hearing is. i've test this on a few speakers and i can't hear what you're talking about. i believe you, but i just can't find it.

about the tempo. i agree that it might need to speed up a tad bit, but i'm thinking if you saw the scene you'd find it appropriate (i hope so at least). i actually haven't been shown the final scene, so it will need to be edited in the end - but it probably won't be too different from what i have posted.

I would tend to say this track matches the 18th CGEmpire Music Competition. I especially like the part when the choir comes in.

As you mentioned the Garritan Forum, do you know any news regarding GPOA? Last time I was being there they kept silence about it.
